Educates children from five to seven years old through Year 1 and Year 2 of their primary education. Woodcreek School aims to deliver the British National Curriculum by providing its students with the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding required to become lifelong learners.
Our curriculum in Years 1 and 2 exposes children to formalised lessons in the three core areas of learning – Literacy, Numeracy and Science – while also covering a range of non-core foundation subjects with the aim of providing a holistic learning journey. In KS1, our students continue to learn through inquiry and discovery, and further explore their creative abilities. They develop their social-emotional skills through guided play, develop a greater sense of independence, and continue on their journey of personal and academic growth.
Assessment at Woodcreek School is continuous, clarifying what each child should know, understand and do in a lesson. It also encourages children to review what they have learnt and the next steps in their learning, utilising a range of strategies. Data from evaluation is used to celebrate children’s achievements, identify areas of development and inform planning for the school as a whole. Assessment is carried out through target setting, project work, written assessments and homework assignments.
Our programme also holds the Woodcreek School values and personal learning goals at the forefront of our curriculum in order to foster compassion, empathy, growth mindset, and problem-solving skills. With these aims, we provide our KS1 learners with a range of experiences to prepare them for upper primary in Key Stage 2.
